Trachystemon orientalis - Early-flowering Borage is an excellent, really tough ground cover for even dense shade, suppressing weeds. In early spring, blue and white borage-like flowers appear from bare soil.

Then the leaves take over, making good-sized clumps of bright green, each leaf up to 30cm long and wide. Spreads by underground rhizomes and can outrun less robust neighbours.

Foliage: Semi-evergreen

Height: 30-60cm in 2-5 years
