Stipa gigantea - Golden Oat is a robust, tufted evergreen grass, with arching, linear green leaves and in this selected form extra large large panicles of oat-like, long-awned flowers which ripen from gold to buff.
Grow in medium to light, moderately fertile soil in full sun and divide every few years to maintain vigour. To keep the clump attractive thoroughly comb out dead foliage and old flowered stems in winter or spring.Few will flower in the year of planting;most should produce several spikes the following summer.Allow only shorter companions around it so its outline is unimpeded;the sun striking its glistening heads is an unmatchable sight.
Foliage: Evergreen
Height: 1.5-2.5m in 2-5 years
Spread: 50-90cm
