Sporobolus airoides is dense, clump-forming, deciduous perennial with linear, arching, grey-green leaves and red-flushed, pale yellow flower spikelets in summer.

 
Grows best in fertile, moist but well-drained, alkaline soil in full sun. Tolerates drought, heat, and a wide range of soil conditions, including saline.
 

Cut back in late winter. Tends to die from the centre out. Divide every 3 years to maintain vigour.
