Rumex acetosella. Native to Eurasia and the British Isles, the plant and its subspecies are perennial. It has green arrowhead-shaped leaves that can be added to salads for their sweet and sour flavour. The flowers emerge from a tall, upright stem and give wildflower meadows their pinkish glow when seen with a low sun. Female flowers are maroon in colour. Unless soil is poor, it may need an early summer cut down to avoid it becoming too tall and falling over.
