Potentilla atrosanguinea - red form is a clump-forming perennial with three-lobed leaves covered in silky silver hairs making the plant stand out when not in flower. The red flowers are carried in loose, open sprays on wiry relatively short stems in mid summer and are not borne for long but are the clearest brightest arterial red imaginable. Grow in any well-drained, moderately fertile soil in full sun. After flowering, remove the flower stems at ground level unless you want seedlings. Unlike most garden Potentilla which tend to sprawl, this has a tidy habit. Very drought tolerant.
