Ophiopogon japonicus Mondo Grass, single growth point divisions, evergreen is a desirable tiny evergreen grass like plant with attractive evergreen foliage, eventually forming forming dense tufts of arching, darkest-green leaves usually remaining immaculate year round without any attention. Racemes of small, lilac flowers emerge in summer. It is tough, durable and very compact, perfect for adding texture to the garden and traditionally used as groundcover in oriental gardens (can be seen used superbly in the Japanese garden at Kew).We have barely begun in this country to exploit the extraordinary landscape potential for this plant. Easy to grow in medium moisture soils in sun or shade and is salt and drought tolerant.
