Ophiopogon japonicus - Mondo Grass is a desirable mondo grass with attractive evergreen foliage, forming dense tufts of arching, darkest-green leaves usually remaining immaculate year round without any attention. Racemes of small, lilac flowers emerge in summer, before turning occasionally to blue berry-like fruits. It is tough, durable and very compact, perfect for adding texture to the garden and traditionally used as groundcover in oriental gardens (can be seen used superbly in the Japanese garden at Kew).We have barely begun in this country to exploit the extraordinary landscape potential for this plant. Easy to grow in medium moisture soils in sun or shade and is salt and drought tolerant.
