M. guttatus is a short-lived perennial to 30cm, with spreading stems, toothed, oval, mid-green leaves and bright yellow, trumpet-shaped flowers, often marked with red in the throat, in summer.


Grow in fertile, humus-rich, moist soil in sun or semi-shade.Can also be grown under water in a pond.Grows quickly so can do with a cutting back in summer .Naturalised in Britain.


Cut to ground in winter.
